It’s Trustees Week and I wanted to help by connecting more charities with talented digital professionals who are keen to join boards. in 2019 I blogged about 3 amazing women who were looking for digital trustee roles. I wrote the blog because I spoke to many charities who couldn’t find digital trustees and I knew brilliant people working in digital who would be brilliant trustees. The average trustee is white, male and over 60, and our sector must recruit more diverse trustees who can bring a range of perspectives to the table. This is key to finding a way through the COVID-19 crisis.

There has been lots of interest in the last couple of blogs I wrote about this and some of those featured have gone onto be trustees. I very much hope your charity will hire Vicky, Kirsty or Emma but please remember that they won’t be available for long! As you can see from their profiles below they represent a wealth of talent.

If you’re interested, please contact Vicky, Kirsty or Emma below directly via their social media accounts or the contact details they have shared. To clarify, we’re not acting as a recruiter and this is another of our pro bono initiatives to help charities get the digital skills they need.  If it gets a lot of interest we will do it again.

Here’s a bit more about Vicky, Kirsty and Emma:

I’ve worked in technology, data and digital for over 20 years, both in public and not for profit sectors, during this time, I’ve led & delivered large scale change programmes for digital and technology focusing on strategy, agile ways of working, governance and culture change.

Why I want to be a digital trustee
I am passionate about how digital/technology can be utilised to enable charities to deliver objectives, improve ways of working and reach beneficiaries and supporters. What do you do?
I’m Head of Digital Engagement at The Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (FSRH). I work across all teams at FSRH to drive digital improvement and also to identify areas of work that would benefit from streamlining and developing operational workflows through digital development.

Areas I’m responsible for include the FSRH website, the integration of the website with our database and our soon-to-be-launched Learning Management System (LMS). I work with external agency suppliers to drive improvements and to deliver better user-journeys and improved functionality across our platforms to enhance and improve our user experience.

I work really closely with our staff team at all levels from SMT to staff working on the front line to train staff in digital skills such as website administration, copy-writing, e-communications and digital development. I also work with and write specifications for suppliers to develop functionality and to clarify integration points across our digital platforms. I’m responsible for testing new development and making recommendations to SMT and trustees around digital development to enhance user-experience.

I have experience of driving digital transformation change and seeing first hand in my own role how challenging this can be has been really interesting. Digital is not just about the tech, first and foremost it’s about people and change management.

Why I want to be a digital trustee
I’m really passionate about helping charities to develop their digital platforms to drive not just income generation but also communicating their mission, driving good user-experience and operational efficiency. I have worked in the charity sector for over twelve years in various roles and have a strong understanding of governance, management and charity law (I’m also a Masters graduate in Charity Management).

I love the charity sector and as a regular supporter of several charities myself I see the difference that charities can make to lives. During the last year, Covid has delivered challenges beyond anything we’ve seen before and I feel that digital has a role to play now more than ever as charities move to remote working, digital promotion and innovation. Sometimes the smallest, simplest change can bring big rewards both in terms of operational efficiency but also in terms of income generation and diversification. Digital doesn’t have to be scary or rocket science!

I am really interested in animal, wildlife or environmental charities or small local charities that might need a bit of help with developing a more digital mindset or front-facing digital presence.
