We’re thrilled to share the digital guidance for charities that we’ve written in partnership with The Charity Commission and Grant Thornton. It’s a tool to guide charity boards on the questions that they should be asking about digital, and as such we think it will be very useful for executive teams too.
The resource, 12 Questions about digital for trustees, features examples of key questions that every board should be considering when approaching digital. They cover 12 wider areas relating to charity activity, such as fundraising, governance, brand, and service delivery. As a charity trustee, I know how daunting digital can be, but not adopting technology can present as much of a risk as adopting it, and in the long term digital will only help charities be more sustainable and future proof the sector.
The tool’s main aim is to facilitate conversations between trustees as well as between the board and charity staff, and to raise awareness amongst trustees of the strategic importance of digital. It looks at the opportunities digital can bring for charities, including better governance, and how trustees can ensure they are prepared for the potential challenges of digital. We’ve written it so that there’s something for everyone in there, whether your charity is more experienced with digital and wishes to sense check its approach, or is just getting started.
It’s worth pointing out that the resource isn’t exhaustive and we are encouraging everyone to share the questions they think boards should be asking about the topic using the hashtag #digitaltrustees.
